Our Boaters Insurance Coverage

When looking for a boat insurance quote it is important to keep in mind that there are different factors that may affect the rating.

Boat Insurance rates are usually dependent on the boat’s size and horsepower, experience of the operator and navigational range. Boat insurance policies compensate for losses caused by fire, weather, theft and accidents. Coverage can also include passenger liability, equipment, trailers and water-skiing liability.

Additional Boat Insurance Coverage

Emergency Towing

One aspect of our boat insurance policy that can come in very handy is the emergency towing endorsement. If you have a mechanical breakdown and are stuck out on the water you can use your insurance to tow you back to shore. A tow will be organized for you and you can submit your receipt and the bill will be paid with no claim on your record.

Fishing Equipment

Fishing has come along way over the past few years and now experienced anglers have some pretty heavy duty equipment. From expensive rods and tackle, to fish finders and cameras it can be quite expensive. You want to ensure that you have enough equipment coverage in place to replace it all should a claim arise.

Water Sports Equipment

Water sports equipment has also come a long way. From skis to wake boards to even wake surf boards the gear and equipment you use can be quite costly. If you have equipment that is expensive you should let your broker know so we can be sure to include it on your policy if the standard amount of equipment coverage is not enough!

Boat Trailer

Towing your boat to your own house or the nearest boat launch is something most of us with boats do quite frequently in the summer and you need to ensure you are covered. Most auto insurance policies will extend liability coverage to the trailer while it is in tow. This does not necessarily mean that physical damage to the trailer will be covered. You need to include your trailer on your boat insurance policy to ensure you receive the coverage. This will also cover the trailer while it is stored.

Boat Insurance FAQ’s

No, boat insurance is not mandatory in Ontario. However, there are certain cases where you are required to carry boat insurance. For example if you moor your boat in a marina you may need to carry a certain amount of boat liability insurance. If you are financing a boat you will be required by the bank to carry insurance until the loan is completed.

Great question! There are two things to consider when talking about towing your boat on a trailer. Your marine insurance policy will cover physical damage to the boat while it’s on your trailer. For instance, if you are towing your watercraft and someone rear-ends you, damaging the watercraft, the marine policy will cover the damages. If you are towing your boat and you side swipe someone with the trailer, causing damage to a third party your auto policy will respond.

There are two items you need to understand in order to know you have your boat registered properly. Your Pleasure Craft License is not your boaters card but is actually the identification numbers that need to be displayed on your boat. They are similar to a VIN on an automobile. A vessel registration is the same as a car ownership. The vessel registration provides proof of ownership. Service is exceptional. Always there to help when changing cars. Let me know about changes on upcoming policies and let me know if the price is going up or down. This tells me that they have reviewed the policy. They check rates with other companies and advise me. Have also treated my referrals with the same awesomeness.
