AirBnB Insurance
Ontario AirBnB Insurance – Free Online Quote
Advancements in technology have opened a new avenue for tourists to experience new destinations and the biggest platform is AirBnB. If you live in Ontario you are likely well aware about AirBnB and short term rentals and how popular they have become. If you own a property that is rented you need an insurance policy that will protect you if something goes wrong. Few home or property owners update their insurance policy to properly reflect the risks involved and if claims occur can be left to cover the losses out of their own pocket. Renting your home should be a rewarding way to earn some extra income, make sure you’re protected!
We have AirBnB insurance options available for a variety of different situations. For instance we have coverage options for:
- Owners who occupy the home while they rent it
- Owners who rent the property year round through AirBnB
- Owners who rent it for only a short period of time each year
No matter what your situation is we have a solution. Talk to one of our insurance experts to get a free quote!
Our AirBnB Insurance Expertise
Are you renting your home to others? If so, have you informed your insurance company? Well you might want to get on that. If you look at the details of your current property insurance or homeowners policy the fine print might surprise you. Most standard Ontario home insurance policies do not cover damage while the home is being rented and so if a claim occurred your policy would be come void and you would have to pay the claim out of pocket. And trust us that is not fun for anyone.
Luckily for you we have a team of AirBnB insurance experts who have coverage solutions just for you! Thanks to our size and relationship with our insurance markets we are one of the few brokers with access to multiple carriers for AirBnB insurance protection. In the event you are renting your home on any short-term rental site you need to inform your insurance company. We have options for standalone rental policies, some of our carriers offer endorsements to your existing home insurance coverage in Ontario and we even have a specific contract through Lloyds of London for AirBnB and other short-term rentals specifically.
AirBnB Insurance: Short-Term Renters
Unlike a full time renter the users on AirBnB are typically renting for a short period of time. Most full time renters are required to carry a tenants insurance policy by their landlord. However, with AirBnB this is not the case because of the nature of the renting, it doesn’t make sense to get a renters policy if you are only staying for a weekend. This leaves a potential gap in coverage should something happen to the third party and their possessions while they are staying with you. If the insured has their own property policy and something happens to their stuff or they are negligent while renting from you their own property insurance policy will respond. But, if they don’t have their own policy… You guessed it, you might be dragged into it. That is why having a property insurance policy that covers you for short-term rentals is important. Let one of our brokers walk you through a solution that works for you!
What is Already Covered by AirBnB Insurance?
AirBnB builds in protection automatically for the hosts when they sign up for the platform. This means you do have some protection built into your contract with AirBnb, however these protections are often not enough. It is important to understand what AirBnB covers and where there might be gaps in your coverage through the platform.
Host Guarantee Protection
AirBnB offers property damage protection up to $1,000,000. This coverage is intended for your general contents and home if they are damaged by a guest. However, there some notable exclusions to this coverage for instance any jewelry, collectibles or high value art would not be covered under the basic plan. This is why additional AirBnB insurance coverage can be important.
Host Protection Liability
AirBnB also offers liability coverage to hosts who use their platform. The coverage provides $1,000,000 in the event that a third-party files a lawsuit against you for personal injury or damages. This insurance acts as the primary insurance coverage but you would need an additional property insurance policy to cover any thing above and beyond the $1,000,000 provided.
$1,000,000 does seem like an adequate amount but lets suppose you rent your property to someone and they fall off a balcony and break their neck. They have become catastrophically injured and are suing you for damages. They can no longer work and they have expensive medical bills. The coverage provided by AirBnB does not cover loss of income for the third-party. If they are unable to return to work you would be on the hook unless you purchase a property policy that covers you above and beyond the AirBnB protection.
