As a former newspaper reporter/photographer with over 8 years of experience, Scott’s seen his fair share of accidents and fires, as well as the devastating impact that those incidents can have on a family. Now he views these incidents in a different light, by helping people recover and setting their lives back on track. That’s what gets him out of bed in the morning, the thought of protecting and helping you.

How did you get involved in insurance?

Scott got into the insurance field largely by chance. He had been laid off and was looking for a local job when he saw an ad for an insurance broker. Scott saw it as an opportunity to be with people, get out in the community and really solve problems – so he jumped at the chance. He’s been working happily in insurance ever since.

What do you bring to the table to help your clients?

Scott is all about empathy. He can put himself in your shoes, understanding your fears and concerns. After his mortgage, car payment and grocery bill, insurance is the largest fixed cost he has – at least until his daughter leaves for college or university. He gets how much of an investment it is and treats your policy like he treats his own.

He regularly reviews your insurance to ensure there are no possible gaps in coverage, to check that you are receiving all available discounts and to shop your policy to McDougall Insurance’s 40-plus markets to see if he can find you something better. He is firmly on your side, a friendly face who will work tirelessly for you and with you.

What do you think is important in a relationship with a client?

Being responsive and open. Scott strives to have a relationship with his customers where they can voice absolutely any concerns. Some insurance brokers feel their job is to serve only as a dictionary – a repository of insurance knowledge that is available to their clients to help them make decisions. Scott feels the reality is much different – he is a trusted advisor. He takes his vast knowledge of insurance and applies it to your problem, directing you to get the most out of your big insurance investment.

Part of a successful relationship is being there for your client, so Scott goes to great lengths to always be available.
