What to Name Your New Boat?

Hooray! You got a new boat! There are few things quite as exciting as signing the dotted line and become the captain of a sea-farthing vessel, but before you can hit the waves there are a few orders of business to take care of.

First, of course, is how to protect your boat while you use it. Let it be shamelessly known that McDougall Insurance is an expert in marine insurance. We have specialized markets and boat experts which we use to give you useful, flexible coverage that will protect you while boating without costing you an arm and a leg (boats are expensive enough!). Get it done quick and painless, give us a call at 1-800-361-0941.

Once insurance is all set, the second consideration when you buy a boat is what to name it!

Now some people are born with a natural wit, great punning panache, and the ability to come up with a clever, creative and germane name that will make all other boat goers turn their heads in awe.

This is not a list for those people.

This is a list for those people who last wrote a poem when they were a lovesick fifteen year old, and whose greatest creative accomplishment is naming their son or daughter. Yes, we are not exactly wordsmiths. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have cool names too! So without further ado; five funny names for your boat!

Name #1: Yeah Buoy

Probably better for a sport boat than a cruiser, Yeah Buoy is still an awesome name. Funny and ridiculous, just like it’s namesake, this punny name is an excellent choice for when your boat is going to be the life of the party.

Because lets be honest here, who could resist getting onto a boat with a name like that. Just add some refreshments and you are guaranteed an at least average time. But probably much, much better.

Name #2: Sea Sharp

Are you a musician? A computer programmer? Do you just happen to have naturally good eyesight? This deliciously punny name is great for a wide variety of people, has a clearly nautical theme and ever some alliteration to boot! It’s short, sweet and to the point, which means that people will actually get your joke, which works better than some of the more in-depth names on this list.

Name #3: The S. S. Essess

This name is awesome, but is also a little bit more complex than your typical “this is a water pun” brand of boat names. Seeing it on the side of the boat won’t immediately get an observer chuckling, but with a bit of thought maybe a smile will end up splitting their face. After all, there is something especially charming about noticing a boat that is actually called “SSSS”. Of course, this isn’t the only option for your clever “SS” boat names, you can also try “The U.S.S. Arrr”.

Name #4: Blue Bayou

A personal favorite, this one is again harder to catch onto because its not so in your face, but it is still pretty straight forward. This name works especially well if put onto a fast boat, since than the name is prophetic. The other boaters only the water will really say to each-other “Wow, that new boat Blew by you“. And that is pretty hilarious.

Name #5: Never Again #2

A funny, ironic and self deprecating name, you get extra points if you never actually had a boat called never again. This name will undoubtedly get a smile from all who hear it, and is a wonderful catch-22. Just watch out for your neighbours, who might just take the name game up a notch and purchase a “Never Again #3”.

Of course it really doesn’t matter what you call your boat, you’ll enjoy it regardless. It’s pretty hard not to like being out on the water, but as with everything, there is still risk. So keep your prized possession safe with a good insurance policy, and call 1-800-361-0941 today.
