The Benefits of Boat Insurance
While many people may not be familiar with boat insurance, as a relatively low percentage of people own boats large enough to insure (like a houseboat or motorboat, as opposed to a canoe or kayak), it can make the difference between a beautiful day on the water and a disaster by the docks.
Boat insurance is essential because boats, like motor vehicles, are vulnerable to damage by a wide variety of sources. For instance, the motor can explode and cause the boat to catch on fire, it can be crashed into by other boats, and it can even be stolen.
The operator of a motor-driven boat, too, is legally liable for any damage caused to another person, or their property, by their boat.
Boat insurance rates are calculated on the basis of such factors as:
- The size of the boat.
- The type of boat (sailboat, houseboat or pontoon boat), as each different type carries a different type of risk.
- The owner’s level of piloting experience.
Boat insurance can help give you peace of mind, so that you don’t have to worry about damage to your prized speedboat and can focus on enjoying the waves this summer.

Its great that you talked about how boat insurance is essential because boats, like motor vehicles, are vulnerable to damage by a wide variety of sources. My father just bought a really expensive boat which made me start thinking if we should have it insured or not. There seems to be quite a lot of benefits to it so I’ll try to consult with my father first.
