Meet the Dougallers: Rebecca Slaughter

Meet the Dougallers is back with Rebecca Slaughter who is part of our new office in Petawawa! We sat her down to find out a little bit more about her, life in insurance, and the new office in Petawawa. Take a look!

Name?

Rebecca Slaughter, I go by Becca!

Place of Birth? 

Pembroke, Ontario.

Hobbies? 

My hobbies include fishing, hunting, softball, golf, camping, snowmobiling and curling. I love the outdoors!

Favorite food? 

All food is my favorite however, I do love a good poutine with bacon and fried onions on it! Ok you’re making us hungry…

Favorite saying?

That’ll do donkey, that’ll do! – Shrek

Favorite movie and why?

I love all the Marvel movies.  I will watch them on repeat or anytime they are on. Such a good story line to them and to all come together during End Game, EPIC. Plus I leave the little teasers after the credits.

How did you get involved in insurance? 

I started in insurance in 2012 doing a Co-op with ClaimsPro.  Took a year off before college to figure out what I wanted to do and was hired again with ClaimsPro after a microburst went through the area.  Took the business of Insurance Course at Seneca College in Toronto for 2 years and then came back to the Valley.  At which point I applied at McDougall Insurance in 2016 and was hired as a receptionist.  Following that received my RIBO and began servicing clients within the company. I left McDougall in 2018 to pursue an adjusting career with ClaimsPro.  I was a property casualty adjuster with them for 2.5 years when I decided that being a broker is more for me and returned to McDougall in 2021.

What do you bring to the table to help your clients? 

I bring several years of experience in the insurance field from the brokerage side to the adjusting and claims side. I spent 2.5 years reading policies from multiple different companies and determining whether insureds were covered or not in a claim. I can explain the coverages in clear language that is easy for the clients to understand as well as provide examples of situations where the coverages would apply. As a broker helping our clients through claims is the most important part of the job and I am happy that I have been able to work on both sides.

What do you think is important in a relationship with a client?

Honesty and trust are important aspects of a relationship with a client.  I believe that once these aspects are compromised the client will begin to look elsewhere to place their insurance.  There is no need to lie to clients just to achieve their business.

Anything else you would like to add?

I’m a go getter and love to act like a fool just to get some laughs out of people.  My main goal is to make at least one person I run into, smile each day.  Laughter is medicine and the world needs to be a happier place!
