Meet the Dougallers: Nancy Beggs

Meet the Dougallers welcomes Nancy Beggs from our Kemptville office! We sat down with Nancy to find out a little bit more about what got her into insurance, what she likes doing in her spare time and more! Let’s meet Nancy:

Place of birth?

Sherbrooke, Quebec (Eastern Townships).

What are your hobbies?

My time is largely consumed of running my kids to hockey but I love being at the rink.

When I am not at the rink, I enjoy making Rustic Wooden Signs and taking in a great 80’s band concert with friends.

Favorite food and why?  

Seafood and fish is my favourite.  It’s not something I cook so it’s definitely a treat when I get the opportunity to eat it.

What is your favorite saying? 

Don’t make me use my Hockey Mom voice!

Favourite movie and why? 

I can’t really say that I have a favourite movie.  I enjoy all kinds of movies from documentaries, comedies, action to horror and everything in between.

One thing we should know about you? 

During my time working for Grenville Mutual I also did Home and Farm Inspections for 5 years.

How did you get involved in insurance? 

I literally FELL into insurance when I moved from Quebec to Ontario.  Back in the early 90’s it was who you knew and not what you knew.  I started in a big Stock Company in Ottawa and ended up as a Claims Adjuster with them until 2005.

What do you bring to the table to help your clients? 

My many years of claims experience and 16 years Farm underwriting has provided me with the lots of knowledge to make sure my clients are adequately covered.  I also live on a farm.  Over the past 26 years my husband and I have gone from milking cows to cash crop farming and growing pumpkins annually.  I understand the farming industry and farmers.

What do you think is important in a relationship with a client?  

There is so much that is important in a client relationship.  Communication, trust, empathy, knowledge.  Clients aren’t just numbers they are people too and they want to be treated like people.

Favourite sports team? 

The Ottawa Senators of course!

What got you into farming insurance? 

I needed a change from Claims and the opportunity for Farm Underwriter came up with a Mutual Insurance company that was local.  I enjoy new challenges and this was right up my alley.

Favourite Celebrity? 

Ryan Reynolds, a good old Canadian born actor!

Anything else you would like to add? 

Something that not many people know about me is that I am fluently bilingual.  Having grown up in Quebec I am able to speak with clients in both English and French.
